The celebration of architecture across the state of Texas culminates in the exhibition Elsewhere Texas, on view at the Architecture Center Houston (ArCH) September 23, 2009 – October 25, 2009. The exhibition will feature Russell Creek Family YMCA in Plano as an example of modern design.

Elsewhere Texas takes a look at projects completed after the year 2000 throughout Texas and beyond. The projects are located outside Houston’s city limits and were designed by architects with practices based outside of Houston. Twenty-three projects were selected for inclusion in Elsewhere Texas. “The exhibition is [Houston’s] way of recognizing our peers in the industry as they descend on the city for the Texas Society of Architects Convention in October,” said Fernando Brave, AIA, curator of the exhibition. The Texas Society of Architects Convention takes place October 22 – 24, 2009 in Houston.

Designed by Good Fulton & Farrell Architects, Russell Creek Family YMCA, located in Plano, features open, large expanses of northern glass combined with brightly colored glazed block announcing a highly vibrant and energetic athletic facility. The building’s simple structure and orderly plan is a large box with two-story spaces, carefully arranged to allow for future expansion. Smaller one-story areas defining entries and exits are tucked under the perimeter of the “big box.”

“The exhibition recognizes a modern design aesthetic, and we are honored to be selected among other high-caliber projects,” said Valerie De La Rosa, marketing manager at Good Fulton & Farrell.

Russell Creek Family YMCA is a past recipient of the Dallas Chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA Dallas) Merit Design Award in 2006.
