Dallas-area productions of Rocky Horror Show and Evil Dead: The Musical to compete in karaoke showdown
Vampires wage battle with zombies using nothing but their vocal chords? Though it sounds like some hip new video game or reality TV show, it's actually two local theatre directors who came up with the idea. Sharon Veselic, director of Greater Lewisville Community Theatre's upcoming production of The Rocky Horror Show, and Bill Fountain, director of Level Ground Arts' upcoming production of Evil Dead: The Musical, have been friends for a few years, and have a healthy dose of playful competitiveness.
When the two realized their respective shows would both be running in October (aka., Halloween season), they started talking about whose show would be better. After much smack-talk from both sides, they're ready to put their money where their mouth is ... and though a champion will be crowned, a local women's shelter will walk-away with the biggest prize.
On Saturday, September 26 at 8:30 p.m., members from both casts will be meeting at The Tap In in Grapevine to take turns showing off their singing talents. Anyone in attendance can vote for either cast by dropping a donation into that show's collection bucket. At the end of the night, the show that raises the most money will be crowned the winner of the karaoke competition. All money raised for the competition will be donated to SafeHaven of Tarrant County.
