Plano police locate man who allegedly asked a fourth grader to get in his van
PLANO On September 22, 2009 at approximately 7:40 a.m., Plano police officers responded to an investigation in the 3200 block of Russell Creek Drive at Skaggs Elementary School.
Upon arrival, officers contacted a male fourth grade student who advised that the driver of a gray van had asked him if he wanted to get in the van. The victim immediately left the area and upon arriving at school reported this incident to the principal, who notified the police. Patrol officers thoroughly searched the area but were unable to locate the van at that time.
On September 24, 2009, investigators identified the driver of the van who voluntarily reported to the Plano Police Department to be interviewed. The subject advised that he had a legitimate reason involving his employment to be in the general location of the incident.
As a result of this interview, investigators do not believe that a criminal offense had occurred and that at this time the individual poses no threat to the community or public safety. The identity of this individual is being withheld as no criminal offense occurred.
The Plano police separtment would like to remind all parents to talk with their children about safety issues in walking to and from school, to pre and post-school activities, and in all public areas. The student involved in this incident used good judgment in reporting this incident to school and authorities immediately.
