Why I don’t hate music: Chandler edition

0

This is the second part in a series called Why I don't hate music, where Crisman taps into the musical taste of people who listen to music for a living. See part one, about Josh Venable, here.

We asked Chandler from CBS Radio Dallas what he listens to off the clock. As imaging director for Jack FM National, creative and programming consultant for Indieverse, and Music Guy for TXA-21, this dude has no shortage of music in his ears.

Here's what he told us:

"Musically, I'm weird. My 'absolute must listen to' list after a long day of playing with sounds and songs changes weekly. I'll just give you five bands that seem to always make my play list:"

Pavement: Favorite album, of course, Slanted and Enchanted, although Wowie Zowie is a very close second.

Guided By Voices: "Skin Parade" gets stuck in my head for days at a time.

ANYTHING DAVID BOWIE: And I mean anything -- my wedding song was "When the World Falls Down" off of the Labyrinth Sound track.

Same Goes for Tom Waits; the man is a freaking genius.

And a new band I have started listening to out of LA called Big Elf: They have an album called Cheat the Gallows. They are like the love child of an orgy with Pink Floyd, Black Sabbath, The Doors, and Led Zeppelin. They tour with a freaking Hammond Organ AND a Mooger the lead singer plays while singing. I interviewed them and saw them live; they are what live shows once were and should still be.

Other faves that need mentioning: Yo La Tengo, Johnny Cash, Riceboy Sleeps, Willie Nelson, She and Him and The Horses Ha -- sorry. That's more than five.
