Dallas frozen yogurt meltdown: Menchie’s in Dallas’ Highland Park Village
Editor's note: Latest chapter in our series on frozen yogurt covers Menchie's in Highland Park Village.
Opened: August 2009
Profile: Self-serve place in Highland Park Village is part of a small chain based in Southern California, located next to Jamba Juice and Who's Who Burger.
Ambiance: Overall color scheme is white, silver, and seafoam green: White plastic furniture, silver table-tops, and green tile. BUT they definitely do a twist on the usual signature motifs. For example, instead of little square tiles around the yogurt stands, there are cool green circles. Instead of the toppings being built into a countertop, they're set up in a clear plexiglass stand. In addition to the usual assortment of toppings that everyone else has, these guys have four hot dessert sauces you can drizzle, including caramel, hot fudge, sugar-free hot fudge, and peanut butter.
The flow is a little off, with a clever service station in the middle but no obvious beginning or end of a line. Staff was very sweet but the overall vibe seemed a little chaotic.
Utensils: One size paper cup, which is cool, with ordinary plastic spoons.
Price: 43 cents per ounce -- not the highest but certainly Top 5. But they're in high-rent Highland Park Village, so it's not exactly a surprise.
Yogurt: Six machines, 12 flavors. No green tea or taro, but they DO offer two "tart" flavors at all times, including the plain tart and a rotating tart flavor, which on this day was pina colada. They had a root beer float flavor that not many people offer with any kind of regularity but unfortunately the machine was down. The mango sorbet tasted a little funky. But otherwise the yogurt seemed to be in good shape.
Verdict: Recommend, mostly because the yogurt was in good shape.

I went to menchie's a few days ago. Loved the plain vanilla and got a ton of topping for like $4. and they gave me a buy one - get one coupon. Even better!
