UPDATE: DiTerra’s on Lower Greenville in Dallas is toast
Updated 01:05 a.m., October 1, 2009
DALLAS DiTerra's Urban Italian restaurant on Lower Greenville in Dallas has closed. The website is still up, but the phone number's been temporarily disconnected and their Facebook page has been disabled.
A Lower Greenville wag on the scene reported that there's a lock-out letter posted on the door as well as a "For Lease" sign.
One manager at a Greenville Ave. bar who didn't want to be identified said that the owners "ran out of money." Owners Leigh Latshaw and Branden Watson, described by the Observer (who misspelled their name) as an architect and photographer, had little previous experience running a restaurant, although they do have production credits on a creepy-ish band video.
UPDATE: The restaurant has been closed since Labor Day Weekend, confirms chef Susannah Walker.
"We had closed over Labor Day weekend and were taking a few days off and then at some point during that time, they decided they wouldn’t open again," she said. "The rent was very high, and we never got enough traffic, it was a shame we couldn't ever get enough foodies."
Walker, who said she had always juggled a couple of part-time jobs on the side, is currently working for Hotel Palomar and also at Park restaurant on Henderson.

Their website is still up? How lame. How irresponsible. How utterly bogus.

It takes money to make money. If you don't have half a million laying around, don't even bother going into business.

I'm sorry to see them go. Was there last month and the food and wine were excellent (loved the grilled calamari and the cioppino). Additionally, great pours on the house wines and good buys on a few of the bottles. I wish the operators and their investors luck and hope they find a better deal. FYI: LG restaurant / bar scene is a wasteland with the lowest occupancies that I've ever seen for that area. Landlords should do all they can to entice and keep good tenants - yes, this means some free rent and major concessions for the time being. The redevelopment money is history and the tenants are few-and-far-between...... JB
