The Rangers' postseason hopes have gone the way of the dinosaurs.
With the loss, Texas' slim playoff hopes fell to none, as the Boston Red Sox backed into the wild card spot over the slumping Rangers. The Angels clinched the AL West title the previous day.
Rangers starter Scott Feldman, once considered a Cy Young candidate, lost for the third time in his last four starts, surrendering four runs on seven hits in just three-plus innings. Feldman, who at one point this season was the best road pitcher in baseball, fell to 17-7 with a 4.02 ERA.
Despite going up against LA's second stringers and minor league prospects, the Rangers once again played uninspired ball, amassing just five hits and zero walks. David Murphy hit a home run, his 17th, in the top of the fourth inning while Ian Kinsler scored off an Ivan Rodriguez groundout in the fifth. Texas is just 14-12 since acquiring Rodriguez from the Houston Astros.
