Yvonne A. Ewell Townview Magnet Center awarded $15,000 grant for chemistry program
The Yvonne A. Ewell Townview Magnet Center has been awarded a $15,000 grant from the Jordan Fundamentals Grant Program for the project "KIC" Out of Science Through Knowledge in Chemistry, developed by chemistry teacher Jennifer C. Stimpson.
The "KIC" Out of Science program is an innovative strategy to attract students to chemistry via encouragement and inspiration in order to foster an interest in science beyond high school. Through the program, students will explore science and be part of a learning atmosphere that actively engages them in analytical research.
“Jennifer Stimpson is an out of the box, hands-on educator who brings a unique, fun, and festive approach to learning chemistry,” said Townview Magnet Center principal Alice Black. “Jennifer wants to make science cool, and she succeeds through this program. We’re excited to see her work recognized and supported by this grant."
Jordan Fundamentals Grant Program was born out of former NBA great Michael Jordan’s firm belief that education is the key to opportunity, excellence and achievement. Jordan Fundamentals awards $1 million dollars annually to teachers across the country who motivate and inspire students toward achieving excellence.
