Dallas South News Monster High School Football Game of the Week: Carter vs. Lancaster
Carter coach Allen Wilson expects Lancaster to provide a tough test.
In the Dallas South News Monster Game of the Week, Lancaster High hosts Dallas Carter High on Friday night at Beverly D. Humphrey Stadium. The Carter Cowboys need no introduction. The DISD school has maintained its prominence in Texas High School football since 1971 with a gaudy 33 playoff appearances and a string of 20 uninterrupted seasons of entering the playoffs.
Carter Head Coach Allen Wilson spoke about how he and his staff prepare for season openers. “We use preseason (non-district) games to get better and to learn a little more than we learned the previous week,” Wilson says. Coach Wilson is in his 9th season at Carter and his compiled a record of 81-18. Last season the Cowboys were 9-3, losing in the area round of the playoffs to Carrollton Smith.
“We see the season in phases,” Wilson says, “including district games which are the 2nd season and of course the playoffs which we see as the 3rd season.”
But in speaking of this week’s opponent, Coach Wilson says Lancaster will provide the Cowboys with a tough test. “Lancaster has good size, they have speed on both sides of the ball; we’ve got our work cut out for us,” Wilson says.
Rivals.com says the Lancaster Tigers have the nation’s Best High School Secondary. “...you’re not going to find a group of defensive backs at one school with more talent than the Lancaster secondary,” says Barton Simmons, Rivals.com Recruiting Analyst. The Tigers look to improve on a 4-6 season a year ago. Kickoff time for Friday’s contest is set for 7:30 p.m.
