International vegan restaurant chain Loving Hut opens in Arlington

Loving Hut in Arlington

Christmas came early this year for Metroplex vegans, as Loving Hut, the fastest growing international vegan restaurant chain, opened this past Monday in Arlington.

This is the second vegan restaurant to open in the area this year with ties to the Supreme Master Ching Hai International Association (the first opened in Plano). As such, you’re treated to Supreme Master TV, as it appears is the standard at most restaurants influenced by the association.

Loving Hut offers an eclectic array of menu items ranging from a few Asian influenced dishes such Summer Rolls and Raw Sushi, to Tex-Mex favorites such as a Mexican Seitan Wrap and Quesadillas. I opted to start with Veggie Sticks – a vegetable medley fried to perfection. Served with a tangy and tasty tomato-based sauce, the overall taste was good, although a little mushy on the inside.

As cooler weather was finally in the air, I couldn’t help but try the Creamy Broccoli Soup next. While it wasn’t quite as creamy as billed, the soup offered a wonderfully seasoned broccoli flavor, with an interesting addition of carrots that added a welcomed crunchy texture.

For the main course, I was drawn to the “Earth Lover’s Sandwich,” a seitan-based faux-chicken salad sandwich on the softest and most fresh-tasting white bread I’ve had in ages. The sandwich was a perfect balance of seasoned veganaise and salty-seitan with tomatoes and lettuce. Served with a side of coleslaw (or the optional potato salad or mixed veggies), this was a dish I can’t wait to try again.

I ordered the Supreme Rice, one of many interesting rice dishes available on the menu, to go. The mixture of seasoned Italian rice, ground seitan and broccoli was a filling option with great texture and flavor. In fact, it was almost too hearty to be a meal on its own – a good option may be to share a salad or wrap and split the rice dish with a friend.

Loving Hut, as the menu indicates, is:

...created with a vision that all beings can live in peace, love and harmony with each other and the planet…an invitation to gourmet cuisine made with wholesome, vegan ingredients, and it offers and accessible starting point for those making the noble transition to a plant-based diet.

That sounds like a pretty great message to us – but whether or not you ascribe to Supreme Master teachings, the bottom line is that Loving Hut is a welcomed new restaurant in the mid-cities area, helping to bridge the vegan gap between Dallas and Fort Worth.
