North Texans get ballsy in 10th Annual Bowl for the Cure

Dallas area bowlers come together for a good cause.

— Just less than two weeks after the International Bowling Campus opened in Arlington, the the 10th annual Bowl for the Cure Tournament will take place at AMF Showplace Lanes in Garland. Lois Gibson, association manager for Dallas USBC Womens Bowling Association, says about 50 teams (as of press time) have preregistered for the tournament. Last year, the local event packed the house and raised $25,000 for Susan G. Komen, and this year, The Dallas USBC Women's Bowling Association hopes to have another great turnout.

Gibson says not everyone can get out and do the walk, and Bowl for the Cure Tournament is a fun way for everyone to raise money. Since the tournament started in 2000 Bowl for the Cure has nationally raised close to $8 million.

It's not to late to register for Friday's tournament. Pick up a registration form at most local bowling alleys or call Gibson at 972-274-4433 for more information. The registration fee is $125 per 5-member team. If you can't find four other people to join you, that's alright: You'll be paired up with another team that needs your help.

Registration begins Friday at noon, and the strikes begin at 1 p.m. Each bowler will receive a commemorative Bowl for the Cure t-shirt and a gift bag. There will be a silent auction and random gifts will be awarded throughout the event. But there is nothing more fulfilling than walking away knowing that you helped out.
