Comedy events in Dallas-Fort Worth, February 3-9
A concert that's funny? We've got two.
Y'know those Sonic commercials where the dorky guy on the left makes jokes at the curly headed guy in the driver's seat? Well, the guy on the left is a comedian for real, not for fake, and he and another guy made a film. Scroll down to check out Trust Us, This Is All Made Up. Also check out the other listings. Let's just say there is a lot to do on Thursdays.
Wednesday (and a few other nights, too)
Join me and comedian Shane Mauss in a moment of reflection as we remember his three appearances on Conan O'Brien. (Didn't see him live on Conan? Me either, but any reason is a good reason to remember Conan.) Mauss plays through Saturday at The Improv in Dallas.
Thursday (and through the weekend)
Nick Thune
- Thu
- Feb
- 4th
- 7:30PM
- Hyena's Comedy Night Club
-
5321 East Mockingbird Lane
Dallas, TX - Age limit: 18+ $10
“Bird owner” Nick Thune will woo you with his silly comedy songs. Apparently, his list of accomplishments includes a gig where Comedy Central paid him to create short films for the Internet called iThunes. And if you think that's funny, you'll like him. Thune has that painful-comedy thing going on, as you can see here:

Nick Thune will perform in Dallas several days this weekend, starting February 4.
Jonathan Couton / Paul & Storm
- Thu
- Feb
- 4th
- 8PM
- Granada Theater
-
3524 Greenville Avenue
Dallas, TX - Age limit: 17+ $22 - $27
Thursday
Let's throw in a non-comedy event into this comedy series just for good measure. Catch Jonathan Couton / Paul & Storm at the Granada and you're bound to get a folk show and a comedy show all in one. Shouting out song requests is probably kosher with this band, so ask for the laidback, seriously white-guy cover of “Baby Got Back.” Or this:
Jonathan Coulton
(It's called Mr. Fancy Pants so you can ask for it by name.) Coulton performs at the Granada February 4.
Thursday (and Friday and Saturday and Sunday)
Ryan Stout is known for hosting trashy reality TV shows on MTV. But he also does some stand-up – in fact, he's won a few comedy contests -- and has aspirations of hosting Late Night with Ryan Stout. (No one's tripping over themselves with contract in-hand, but he says just wait.)

Screening: Trust Us This is All Made Up
- Thu
- Feb
- 4th
- 9PM
- Dallas Comedy House
-
2645 Commerce Street
Dallas, TX
Check out a screening featuring comedians TJ and Dave as they perform a one-hour live standup in New York's Barrow Street Theater. Even a New York Times critic liked the film, called Trust Us, This Is All Made Up.
You'll recognize TJ as one of the funny guys from those Sonic commercials. (We would love to show you a clip of TJ and Dave's movie, but they'll charge me $19.95. You can, however, see TJ and Dave ask you to buy the DVD in a video clip, but that's not near as fun.) So here's a favorite Sonic commercial so you can see TJ. He's on the left:

Say hello to TJ, a comedian whose film will be shown in Dallas on February 4.
Saturday
The folks over at Dallas Comedy House are teaching one of our good buddies improv. Their Level 4 class (which means you're basically good enough, trained enough, and, ideally, funny enough to do it on your own) is performing Saturday night. Check out what these almost-pros have to say.
4 Out Of 5 Doctors
- Tue
- Feb
- 9th
- 7:30PM
- Pocket Sandwich Theatre
-
5400 East Mockingbird Lane
Dallas, TX - Age limit: 17+ $12
Tuesday
Don't you just love stories that begin, “back in the '80s...?” Well, back in the '80s, Dallas comedy troupe 4 Out Of 5 Doctors began telling jokes at corporate meetings. Today, they've ventured into the Pocket Sandwich Theater, and it says here they'll even perform at a Tupperware party if you ask them to.
