Kids and family events in Dallas-Fort Worth, February 4-10
This week is all about frog princes, African American-authored books, and bilingual plays.
It's a big week for culture in kids/family events in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Some of it's educational, some of it's enriching, but all of it is guaranteed to be fun. And your kids deserve to have some fun, don't they?
Starting on Saturday (and playing every Saturday in February, plus a random Monday) is The Tale of the Frog Prince at Artisan Center Theater in Hurst. If you liked Disney's The Princess and the Frog, come see an adaptation of the original story (and if you didn't see the film, make it a double feature with this play -- it's great).
To help celebrate Black History Month, the Dallas County Community College District is holding an African American Read-In at the Majestic Theatre in Dallas on Saturday. Kids will learn about black literary culture through readings by local actors, politicians, and other notable local community members.
Finally, Dallas Children's Theater will present a free performance of Senora Tortuga at the El Centro College Theater in Downtown Dallas. The bilingual play will have the added bonus of the presence of playwright and guest director Roxanne Schroeder-Arce, who will answer questions following the performance.
