Kids and family events in Dallas-Fort Worth, February 11-17
Kids deserve to have some fun on Valentine's Day weekend, too.
Okay, yeah, it's Valentine's Day weekend, but that doesn't mean you should neglect your kids, does it? Give 'em a little love by taking them to at least one of these events -- doing so will make your romantic dinners that much sweeter.
The Allen Event Center has been open for a few months now, but if you haven't had a chance to check it out, they'll be holding an Open House on Friday. If you get there early (starting time: 5:30 p.m.), you might get some cool prizes. Plus, players from the Allen Americans hockey team and former NBA players like Shawn Kemp and A.C. Green will be on hand for meet-and-greets.
If you're up for a little education with your Valentine's Day, head out to the Old Red Museum of Dallas County History & Culture for Discover Dallas Days: Valentine’s Day on Saturday (which, yes, isn't actually Valentine's Day, but go with it). The focus is on famous couples from Dallas, both fictional (like J.R. and Sue Ellen Ewing) and real (Bonnie and Clyde). Your kids may gag a little, but they'll get over it.
Finally, Mardi Gras is on Tuesday, but you and your dog can celebrate a couple of days early at the 8th Annual Krewe of Barkus Parade on Sunday in the McKinney Downtown Square. Since the parade is on Valentine's Day, they'll be combining the two for "Barkus Does Romance," with costume awards being given in categories like "Best Movie Valentine." Sure to be a barking good time for all.
