Best bars and restaurants in Dallas-Fort Worth for Fat Tuesday Mardi Gras fun

Cajun food and hurricanes -- the drinkable kind.

Mardi Gras

Mardi Gras

Quite the party week, with Fat Tuesday falling a mere two days after the Most Romantic Day Of The Year. It's time to move on from the sappy proclamations of love, and find yourself a place in Dallas-Fort Worth to eat like Louisiana chef Paul Prudhomme and drink like you haven't drunk since freshman year in college.

Cocktails

Let's start with the drinking, because that's how we roll: This list covers everything from the costume contest at Dick's Last Resort to the $2 margaritas at Primo's.

One wonders whether Dick's costume contest will involve actual clothes? As for Primo's, when a drink costs $2, you know it must be good.

Mumbo gumbo

For eating, this roundup recommends everything Cajun, beginning with Alligator Cafe (which made the Law Reviewers' 2009 Golden Gavel Awards) and ending with Razzoo's, whose menu includes a regional delicacy that is definitely an acquired taste: fried alligator tails.

This shorter list favors the booze at the aptly named Hurricane Grill. Who among us has ever actually drunk a hurricane? Is it just another one of those frozen drinks powered by rotgut ethyl alcohol or is it a more refined libation? Hate the word libation but damn if it doesn't work here.

This list sortof combines elements from everyone else's list, and is really only on our list because our list is trying to be comprehensive.

Events

Don't forget to check our listings for any Mardi Gras events coming up in February. And if you're thinking about cooking a Mardi Gras-style dinner, seek inspiration from Chamberlain's Fish Market Grill, who recently offered a class on Mardi Gras eating.

This just in: For its "Mardi Gras Party," T.G.I. Friday's will feature half-price appetizers and two new drinks: SoCo Hurricane with Southern Comfort, "hurricane mix" (hmm), and OJ; and Bacardi Passion Splash -- rum, Tuaca, passionfruit puree, lime juice, and cranberry juice. Wouldn't want to overlook TGIF

I almost ate at TGI Friday's at Northpark on saturday out of desparation. Northpark was crazy packed because of All-Star Week. Lucky for me, Friday's was packed too, so I left and ate elsewhere. Thank God!!

oh and the margaritas at Primo's are disgust. I think there is only three drops of tequila in them. $2 for a cup of sweet and sour and ice! awesome! :-(

Nina - The ritas at Pearl contain only - tequila, triple sec, organic agave nectar and fresh squeezed lime juice.
We also have a top shelf version that has hornitos plata and gran marnier..... I'll put these up against any rita, anywhere!
