Delays on Custer Road in McKinney begin Friday

Crews are working on a massive $34 million project to widen Custer Road. It will be finished in fall 2011.

— Under the supervision of Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), construction crews for contractor Mario Sinacola and Sons will begin shifting Custer Road traffic lanes between Eldorado Parkway and U.S. Highway 380 (U.S. 380) Friday, February 19, at 9 a.m. Weather permitting, the traffic shift is expected to be complete by the evening of Saturday, February 20.

Following the traffic shift, concrete barrier placement along the east side of Custer Road is expected to begin Wednesday, February 24, at 9 a.m. and continue through Saturday, February 27. The traffic shift and barrier placement are necessary to ensure the safety of the traveling public, as well as the contractor, while work to widen Custer Road continues.

This work is part of a $33.7 million construction project to widen Custer Road (FM 2478) from 2-lanes to 6-lanes between Stone Bridge Drive and U.S. 380. Message boards announcing the traffic shift have been placed along Custer Road to notify the public in advance.

The estimated project completion is fall 2011.
