Assassination City Roller Derby to kick off fifth season with a bang
The league's all-star team, Special Ops, takes on a the visiting Northwest Arkansas Roller Girls.
"There's roller derby in Dallas?" That is the most commonly asked question asked of roller derby skater Gigi Foulin'. The answer Gigi quite simply gives is yes. "There are a couple of leagues in North Texas, but Assassination City Roller Derby is the only women's roller derby league in Dallas County."
The Kennedy Conspiracy-themed roller derby league is very proud of its locale and kitschy identity. "While some may want to forget that whole time, we feel it's important to embrace its details that make Dallas such a point of interest," says marketing chair Trigger Mortis, "and all of four of our teams themes are based on pivotal characters or organizations in the Kennedy saga in order to raise awareness of each important role."
With teams like the Deadly Kennedys, the Lone Star Assassins, and the Bombshell Brigade, you can be sure to get a big, tongue-in-cheek helping of conspiracy at Assassination City Roller Derby's first bout of 2010 on January 30 as the league's all-star team, Special Ops, takes on the visiting Northwest Arkansas Roller Girls, and the Dirty Little Secret Service takes on Mississipi's Southern Misfits. All of this will be done with a killer backdrop of live Texas music by The Bad Sports and DJ Sista Whitenoise.
Assassination City Roller Derby, a proud member of the nationwide Women's Flat Track Derby Association, will host its 2010 bouts at Dad's Broadway Skateland in Mesquite. The events are BYOB (no glass) and "BYO Chair," as seating is limited. Kids 10 and under get in free with a parent. Tickets to the upcoming January 30th bout are on sale now. You can purchase tickets at the door for $15 or online for $12 at www.ACDerby.com.
Welcome to Assassination City ... watch your head.
