Gensler Dallas’ J.D. Busch wins national contest by Veer
Mr. Busch won out over 1,000 entrants.
DALLAS J.D. Busch, an environmental graphic designer for Gensler’s Dallas office, was the Grand Prize winner in a recent national contest by Veer, a website company that offers stock photography, illustrations, images and typefaces.
More than 1,000 entrants in the contest made the judging difficult. The instructions in the contest were to 'Step away from the computer and re-create the Veer logo using real-world objects or materials.'
Says Busch, “Being an environmental graphic designer, I have learned to appreciate all forms of design. I look holistically at the 3D world in conjunction with the flat pieces to which I had become accustomed as a traditional print designer. One way to merge these is by using a 3D space to visually represent a 2D object, like a logo.”
Busch’s winning entry was a 42-second presentation of the Veer logo, made of paper and tape, emerging in his own garage among “some random stuff in the way,” he says.
“We are thrilled for J.D. and salute him for winning the Veer competition,” says Judy Pesek, Principal and Managing Director of the Dallas office. “He is fulfilling Gensler’s approach to design which includes creativity from all perspectives.”
A graduate of Texas A&M University with a Journalism degree and an emphasis in graphic design and advertising, Busch had five years of experience in graphic design and print communications before joining Gensler in 2007.
