Kids and family events in Dallas-Fort Worth, January 28-February 3

Two educational plays and the Harlem Globetrotters are on tap this week.

Just when you thought things were looking up weather-wise, here comes the freezing stuff again. But that's no reason not to get out of the house. Bundle up and head out for some fun (all inside, I swear).

The South Dallas Cultural Center will start its run of The Tale of the Mouse on Friday, continuing through February 7. The compilation of African folk tales is designed to educate kids on everything related to the African Diaspora. But don't let that big word scare you (or your kids) off -- it's just about teaching life's moral lessons.

If your kids can't get into history at school, take them to the Creative Arts Theatre & School in Arlington for Yankee Doodle Dandies (starting on Friday and continuing through February 6). The play is a comic tale that hits the highlights of early American history.

Finally, the world-famous Harlem Globetrotters will be at the American Airlines Center for two games on Saturday. Come watch Flight Time and Big Easy, who recently competed on The Amazing Race, and the rest of the players beat the Washington Generals for the umpteenth time. Speaking of Flight Time and Big Easy, go here to see them taking on the "Granny Globetrotters" at Park Cities Baptist Church in Dallas.
