TWU to offer online Ph.D. in nursing starting fall 2010
Full-time students can complete the online program in 10 semesters, and part-time options for students are available.
DENTON Texas Woman’s University’s Ph.D. in nursing science will be available 100% online starting in fall 2010.
“TWU has long recognized the need for more nursing educators in the state,” said Dr. Patricia Holden-Huchton, dean of the TWU College of Nursing. “Offering the Ph.D. in nursing science online provides a convenient way for nurses to become nursing faculty or advance their careers.”
Full-time students can complete the online program in 10 semesters, and part-time options for students are available. There also are several scholarship opportunities for prospective students.
TWU’s traditional Ph.D. in nursing science program will still be available in a face-to-face format at TWU’s Institute of Health Science-Houston Center.
The emphasis of the online Ph.D. in nursing science is on research, primarily in the areas that influence women’s health, and to prepare nurse scholars who will:
- Engage in scholarship that will add to the body of nursing knowledge,
- Influence professional values and practice,
- Investigate substantive questions of human health,
- Assume leadership in nursing and health care,
- Integrate knowledge from nursing and other disciplines to address problems of human health and
- Teach and mentor other nurses and nurse scholars.
