Two local bands open for B.o.B. August 6 in battle of bands competition

If they advance to the second round, the remaining bands come to Dallas to film a music video.

— Local bands News Team Assemble, from Dallas, and Don't Shoot the Messenger, from Arlington, are finalists in a battle of the bands competition put on by 7-Eleven and Slurpee. The 12 finalists (of which our two local groups are a part) were picked from more than 900 bands who are vying for $10,000, a music video, and a recording session.

News Team Assemble, Don't Shoot the Messenger, and a Miami band called Fancy Me Yet will perform at the House of Blues on August 6, opening for B.o.B. All the bands will have to gather online votes after their respective performances. (Votes for the Dallas show are due by midnight August 10.) The four bands with the most online votes go onto the next round, where they'll create a music video in Dallas. Fans will again vote -- this time on the videos -- and the top two winners will perform a "special engagement" in their hometowns. Fans vote a third time after the last performance, and a winner gets cash and a recording gig.

B.o.B tickets have been on sale since July 9. Head to the House of Blues to support your local bands, or watch the live stream of the concert.
