Kids and family events in Dallas-Fort Worth, July 28-August 4

This week's events include an (early) kick-off to the TCU football season and an art/food festival in Plano, among others.

As July melts into August, the thought of school starts creeping into kids' and parents' brains yet again. But you've still got a few weeks to go, so let's banish the idea of school for now and go out and have some fun!

Even though football season is over a month away, that's not stopping the West 7th development in Fort Worth from hosting TCU Purple Fridays Kick-Off on Friday. The all-day event will include a look back at TCU's 12-1 2009 season, appearances by the TCU pep squad and mascot, and nighttime concerts featuring Crossroads and the Kyle Sherman Band.

Friday night is your chance to catch a great movie in a unique setting. Swim-In Cinema: Up will be at Rosemeade Rainforest Aquatic Complex in Carrollton. You're encouraged to bring your own flotation devices so you can bob up and down while watching this buoyant Pixar classic.

LakeSide Market in Plano will showcase art and food on Saturday when they put on the LakeSide Market Summer Festival and Taste of LakeSide. The event will have over 20 activities running the gamut from interactive to musical to demonstrations. The various restaurants at LakeSide Market will also be giving away samples of their food.

Finally, even though it's happened a few times already this summer, you still have a few chances to catch Comedy & Magic for All Ages at The Improv in Arlington, including this Saturday night. Whether you're falling over with laughter or staring in awe at tricks, it's sure to be an entertaining night.
