— The Dallas Zoo announced that with just six days of operation under its belt, the Dallas Zoo’s new Giants of the Savanna has enjoyed over 40,000 guests (40,828 to be exact). Memorial Day weekend attendance was up about 30%, with an increase to 21,241 attendees in 2010 from 16,409 attendees in 2009. In response to increased demand, the Dallas Zoo will open the Giants of the Savanna and Wilds of Africa habitats at 8 a.m. every Saturday and Sunday in June, and that guests who present a same-day DART pass at admission will receive a $2 discount on weekends, in addition to Mondays and Tuesdays throughout June.

“Guest feedback is tremendous, overwhelmingly, enthusiastically positive. To accommodate all of the guests, and help more families beat the heat, we’re extending our hours of operation on weekends with an 8 a.m. opening and we’re encouraging guests to take advantage of a great deal we are offering through DART,” said Gregg Hudson, executive director, Dallas Zoo and the Children’s Aquarium at Fair Park. “Ride the DART Red Line to the Zoo; it’s convenient, it’s air conditioned, it’s a great way to avoid traffic.”
