Kids and family events in Dallas-Fort Worth, June 23-30

Learn about water, meet NFL players, and sing along to Grease this week.

As summer has now officially arrived, the mantra from these parts will be staying cool. You may not be able to at all times with the following events, but having fun provides its own sense of relief.

Water Exhibit

Water Exhibit

I'm a little late to the party, but the Museum of Nature & Science in Dallas has the next best thing to taking a dip in the pool -- roaming Science Exhibit: Water, which is on display through August 22. The exhibit shows how even all living beings on Earth adapt to the fact that only 3% of the water we see is drinkable. It may be a little scary, but some education during vacation never hurts.

Have a young football player or cheerleader in your family? Then the place to be this weekend is Mesquite for the 3rd Annual Summer Sportsfest. On Friday, a group of NFL stars (led by host Tarell Brown) will face-off in a celebrity basketball game at North Mesquite High School, while the young 'uns will have a chance to show off/learn their skills on Saturday at Mesquite Memorial Stadium.

Finally, Grease is getting a revival through an official Grease Sing-A-Long version being released in July (starting July 8 at AMC Northpark). Those willing to trek to Frisco, however, can get a sneak preview Friday night when it plays outdoors in Frisco Square. Just hope that your kids pay attention to dancing and costumes and not so much the sometimes inappropriate lyrics.
