Suspicious package found at Rowlett post office was not a bomb

Disappointingly, they don't say what it was.

— A suspicious device that was discovered in a U.S. Post Office mail drop box by a postal worker created a tense situation this afternoon when a postal employee brought the suspicious device directly to the Police Department headquarters on Rowlett Road, just blocks away from the Post Office.

At approximately 3 p.m. the postal employee arrived at the Rowlett Police Department with the suspicious device in the bed of his personal pickup truck, parked in the front parking lot facing Rowlett Road and went inside to notify officers of the device.

The Rowlett Police and Fire Rescue Departments immediately went into action to secure the area around the vehicle, block traffic in both directions on Rowlett Road, and prepare for a possible explosion or fire until the Garland bomb squad arrived. Once on the scene, the bomb squad removed the device from the vehicle with a remote-contolled robot and placed it in a vacant lot adjacent to the Police Department for inspection. After approximately 45 minutes, the device was determined to be harmless containing no explosives.

No businesses or residences had to be evacuated and Rowlett Road was opened to traffic by 4:30 p.m. without incident.

"Oh, how suspicious. It's a device! I better touch it with my bare hands, put it in my personal vehicle, and hand-deliver it to the police."

Teresa Gubbins, staff:

Pavel, i thought the same thing. Rowlett clearly has some uniquely conscientious postal workers

One time I picked up a hitchhiker and he had this suspicious package with him.

After we were driving for a while, my curiosity got the better of me and I finally had to ask him what was in the package

'None of your business' he replied sternly.

I was a little put off but didn't really think anything of it until we got a bit further down the road and I asked him again.. 'no really.. what's in the package?'

'No really. It's none of your business'

At this point I've had enough and I pull over the car and tell him to get the hell out and then I take off. That's when I realize he left the suspicious package in my car!

What.

And the moral of that story is...Don't get too close to Clay if you don't want him checking out your package.

What do you think?
