FRISCO FC Dallas midfielder David Ferreira is the 2010 Volkswagen MLS Most Valuable Player, as voted by MLS players, coaches and general managers, and media. Ferreira scored eight goals and recorded 13 assists during the 2010 regular season, serving as a key element in Dallas’ return to the MLS Cup Playoffs after a two-year absence.
The Colombian international has a goal and three assists during the 2010 MLS Cup Playoffs. Ferreira’s goal proved to be the game-winner against the LA Galaxy in the Western Conference Championship, advancing FC Dallas to the first MLS Cup final in the club’s 15-year history.
Although Ferreira finished the regular season as the most fouled player in the league with 84 fouls suffered, he still played every game, missing just one minute all year.
Since joining FC Dallas from Clube Atletico Paranaense of Brazil at the beginning of last season, Ferreira has tallied 16 goals and 20 assists while appearing in all 60 regular season FC Dallas games through 2009 and 2010.
Ferreira was named to his first MLS All-Star team this season, playing 45 minutes against Manchester United in the 2010 AT&T MLS All-Star game on July 28. He was also named to the 2010 MLS Best XI.
Ferreira and FC Dallas will face the Colorado Rapids in MLS Cup 2010 on Sunday, November 21 at BMO Field in Toronto. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN, Galavision, and TSN2 starting at 8:30 p.m. (ET).
Ferreira edged out the LA Galaxy forward Edson Buddle and 2010 Budweiser Golden Boot winner Chris Wondolowski of the San Jose Earthquakes for the League’s top individual honor.
