Some 4,000 shambling zombies to take over Deep Ellum on Saturday
Walking dead supporters can bring cash and cans to benefit the North Texas Food Bank.
DEEP ELLUM Drooling and bleeding dead zombies are expected to rise from their graves in Deep Ellum Saturday for Dallas Zombie Walk 2010. More than 4,000 zombie lovers have registered to attend the event, and organizers hope it will be the biggest zombie walk to hit Dallas yet.
Zombies who don't live in or near Deep Ellum are encouraged to ride the DART Green Line and then eek their way from bar to bar for discounts given to zombie-clad folks.
The idea for 2010’s Zombie Walk came from Kael Graham, a Dallas resident who said he was watching zombie movies and thought a zombie walk could be a fun way to practice his own ideologies. "People need each other, and we need to find new ways of relating and having fun and meeting each other again,” he said. At the time, he had no idea that more than 4,000 people would want to join him.

When Graham realized how big this event could potentially be, he teamed up with friend Crissy Seber with the North Texas Food Bank. Because the event happens so close to Thanksgiving and the Christmas season, NTFB will collect canned food donations from drop boxes at all of the Deep Ellum restaurants and bars involved. In addition, for anyone who wants to donate $5, NTFB will paint your face like a zombie before the walk at 2826 Arnetic in Deep Ellum. (To donate, contact the NTFB.) The group is also looking for a few more volunteers to help paint faces.
So brush up on your zombie do’s and don’ts before taking the DART Green Line to Deep Ellum and support a good cause. It should be an event worth dying over.
