AmPm in downtown Dallas’ Mosaic now open for lunch and catering only
And we can't guarantee the lunch.
DALLAS AmPm, the glossy restaurant-bar in the troubled Mosaic building in downtown Dallas, has shut down dinner service and is switching its operating mode from full-time restaurant to lunch-spot and catering operation.
Despite the fact that there's been a sign taped to the door stating that the venue is "closed for a private event," owner Chad Willis says AmPm is in a transitional phase, brought on by a dispute with the Mosaic's new owners, Houston-based Kaplan Management.
"We're not closing, we still have [chef] Tommy Simpson and the executive team," Willis said. "We're still having nightlife and private events, charity events, birthday parties, we're still doing that, and we're still doing catering for buildings downtown. We did reach a contract for buffet lunches. We haven't closed down, we're just transitioning our business model because of inconveniences we’ve suffered to something that's more sustainable in our current environment."
Kaplan bought the Mosaic building in August after it was foreclosed in May. According to Willis and other tenants of the building, none of whom wished to be quoted, the new management company is alleging that the current leases are no longer valid. Other tenants in the building include Pulse Fitness, Backbeat Cafe, and the new taco shop, Taco Borracho.
"They're saying, 'We don't recognize your lease,' and basically holding hostage your current business," Willis said. "They gave all of the [tenants] that would not conform a notice to vacate. Obviously we have the right to be there, so we're going to court."
AmPm's lounge action has been brisk, hosting numerous celebrity-studded parties and charity events such as the NBA AllStar weekend in February attended by Carmen Electra and Holly Madison, and a gala attended by Nicky Hilton in May.
Kaplan was unavailable for comment.

unlisted, humbleness is a word according to a few dictionaries, but I agree that humility is better.

They are a good group there at AMPM, I bet they are just restructuring things a bit.

Despite its rep as a lounge, ampm has really good food. Their chef's (Tommy Simpson) earned his cooking chops: Mansion, Crescent Court, Zaza, Nobu, N9NESteak...

If they would put patio tables and chairs out for the fall, it would look much more inviting as a lunch destination.

This building, and downtown in general, needs more casual dining, inexpensive restaurants. There's too many expensive restarurants and lounge clubs downtown. Plus, this place looks cold and univiting from the street. I've eaten there twice and the food was okay, but both times it wasn't busy at all. I heard nightime was the Earl Hardy, a-hole crowd. This place needs a BuzzBrews or even a Chilis.

Sucks to have an a-hole landlord.

Mosaic was designed to be a hip ultra urban place in downtown Dallas where you could live work and play. The new management/owner has totally destroyed everything Mosaic stood for! Evrything that made Mosaic the happening place to be has been destroyed! Taco Barracho was a welcome addition, especially because it stayed open 24/7. They have now been forced to close at 10pm. AMPM totally woke up downtown Dallas with all the celebrity functions it put on, to say the least. It also added to helping the Mosaic become well known.
They cool hallways and the projected unit numbers are now gone. The new management staff do not know the meaning of "customer service"! Thry should of taken lessons from the former staff. What kind of business sense is it to force out high paying commercial tenants? A lot of us understand that the previous owners foreclosure was a result of the economic crash. We also know that the coming foreclosure will be because of ignorant business decisions! Mosaic used to be great, now it is just another building in downtown Dallas trying to make a buck.

The Mosaic was never great. Burn that place to the ground.
