UPDATEDx2: We’ll scare the pants off of you in monthly movie series “The Horror”
If you like to suffer through horror flicks, join us!
Once a month beginning on May 4, Pegasus News is hosting a film series at Studio Movie Grill called Pegasus Picks: The Horror. As you can imagine, the series features horror flicks that our very own movie critic John P. Meyer has selected. He's seen a lot of movies, so trust us when we say that these flicks will be especially blood-curdling, particularly creepy, and downright nightmare-inducing. That's the fun part.
The series is brought to you by Pegasus News, and presented by SMG with A Twist in association with Zombie Manor. Shows start at 10 p.m. the first Wednesday of each month, and it's just $5 to get in. You'll have the distinct pleasure of meeting John (should you want to), or you'll be left to your own devices (should you prefer to shiver in terror on your own).
UPDATE: Great news: The series is now free to attend!
The Pegasus Picks: The Horror movies are:
May 4: Horror of Dracula: Just as Sean Connery put his indelible stamp on the role of James Bond, so did Christopher Lee become, for all intents and purposes, Dracula. This 1958 version of the granddaddy of all vampire tales marked his first appearance in the role. Lee's dynamically sexualized performance brought a new legion of fans to the horror genre, and Hammer Films was off and running.
June 1: Splinter: Set mostly in a deserted gas station/convenience store, and featuring only a half-dozen cast members, Splinter succeeds in inducing a sense of claustrophobic terror that builds to a hair-raising and explosive climax. Something deadly is trying to get in, and our protagonists are trying to keep it out — out of both the gas station and their own bodies.
July 6: The Thing: There are some who will tell you they prefer the understated, more intellectual horror of the 1951 version, but John Carpenter's 1982 movie features creature effects by Rob Bottin. When the alien infiltrator gets into the dog compound and starts morphing the pooches into a snarling Lovecraftian protoplasmic mess, you're going to be glad you wore those Depends.
For those who have already seen it, this screening will serve as a great refresher for the identically titled prequel, arriving in theaters this October.
August 3: Jacob's Ladder: When our PegNews film critic saw it during its initial release, this 1990 creeper by director Adrian Lyne (Fatal Attraction, Unfaithful) caught him completely unawares and scared the pants off of him. (So he reports.) There's seldom been a better, more terrifying depiction of encroaching madness. Or whatever it is that's happening to post office employee Jacob Singer (Tim Robbins)...
September 7: The Haunting: Speaking of intellectual horror, movies don't get more thoughtful (or thought-provoking) than this masterpiece of a haunted house story by Shirley Jackson, brought to the screen in 1963 by Robert Wise. Delightfully, The Haunting also turns out to be one of the scariest damn movies you'll ever see. The frisson of lesbianism at play serves as icing on the sinister cake.
October 5: Dead Alive: Before he made The Lord of the Rings, Peter Jackson sunk his teeth into this stylish and amusingly over-the-top zombie picture about a young man with mommy issues.
UPDATE x2: November 2: Jeepers Creepers
Join us the first Wednesday of the month for a shiver-inducing evening with Film Guy John P. Meyer. You won't be sorry.

unlisted, humbleness is a word according to a few dictionaries, but I agree that humility is better.
