Dallas episode of Man v. Food Nation airs on Wednesday
See it on the Travel Channel at 8 p.m.
Man v. Food Nation, the second-generation extreme eating show, will feature Dallas on its episode on Wednesday, with visits to three local spots: Kuby's Sausage House, Sprouts Spring Roll & Pho in Arlington, and the original Sonny Bryan's on Inwood Road.
Photos from the Travel Channel's website show host Adam Richman in Kuby's kitchen with chef Will Christopher; slicing meat with Sonny Bryan's staffer Dave Rummel; and posing with Pete MacGillis, a local glutton who will participate in a pho challenge.
The Travel Channel says that Richman eats brisket, authentic German sausages, and then will "guide the hungry member of Man V. Food Nation Pete MacGillis through the Super Pho Challenge at Sprouts Spring Roll & Pho." (Awww, they ignored our suggestions.) According to TV Guide's synopsis, MacGillis will try to eat 5 pounds of Vietnamese pho in 30 minutes or less.
The filming at Kuby's was done on June 27, and at Sprouts on June 30.
The show used to be called Man v. Food, and featured Richman doing stupid eating stunts, but this season Richman wimped out, adding Nation to the title and transferring the burden of the stunts to locals like MacGillis who are dying to get on TV.
The three restaurants featured represent a curious trio. Sonny Bryan's is somewhat expected; New Yorkers are very fixated on that place. Kuby's, maybe he was just dying for sausage. As for Sprouts Spring Roll & Pho, not sure how they ended up way out in Arlington, or how they ended up deciding that pho of all things made sense for DFW.
Richman got defensive on the Facebook page of Rusty Taco when Rusty Taco celebrated the fact that he'd visited.
Rusty Taco: "[Richman] and producers were checking out our joint. I'll let everyone know as things develop, want you all to be there."
Adam Richman: "No Rusty Taco - we weren't "checking out your joint." And I'm the exec producer actually. I was with my crew and we wanted tacos - end of story. Nice meal - appreciated. False rumors - not so much."
The episode will air on the Travel Channel on Wednesday at 8 p.m.

unlisted, humbleness is a word according to a few dictionaries, but I agree that humility is better.

Ah, TG, "wimped out," really? I guess you've never seen him battle with the super hot ghost chiles.

Wow, did AR really say that stuff? If he did, then it "sounded" kinda nasty. So his on air persona doesn't match his real life persona? Shame.

That does sound like a pretty douchy comment - you'll notice it's been removed from that comment thread and backtracked with "No disrespect meant Rusty Taco!!!..."

Maybe he's being defensive because people have tried to profit by using the MvF name. Or maybe I'm being defensive because like tygor1 I enjoy his on-air persona.
Anyone out there attend a DFW taping and want to weigh in?

I think that comment was so rude, he's lost so many points with that one. He could of worded it differently. He should be happy people are excited about him being there.

Surprised he didn't go to a decent taco place.

What the heck is 5 pounds of pho? It's primarily a liquid, and should be measured as such. Or are they pre-weighing 5 pounds of meat & noodles & veg, and not counting the broth? Not to mention that eating challenges fly in the face of actually enjoying the food.

The Rusty Taco was clearly trying to get more customers in the door by saying "want you all there". That is missleading advertising to say the least and free advertising at that. You can't fool the public. That is illegal. Thank you Adam for clearing the air. You have every right to protect your show and your brand name.

jeffreyandanna, you're right, it's really outrageous for Rusty Taco to want more customers, but that isn't what i got from their comment, nor did i feel that their comment was "missleading" [sic]; and calling it "illegal" is pretty silly

beckyann, so could you -- maybe "could have" would be more grammatically correct.

I think the choices were flat out crap. Sonny Bryans has been over done and you can see it on several reruns on both FN and Travel Channel. I admit that it is good, but pick something a little bit more authentic or original. Seriously PHO and ARLINGTON. What happened to Dallas? Were you just trying to get good shots of the stadium and ballpark? You guys missed out on some amazing opportunities.

I think AR is a fat slob who takes the pleasure out of eating interesting foods and makes him self look like a glutton.

I heard AR is actually a douche in person from a close person that is in marketing and does commercials with stars etc... so his comment makes since to me. I still like to watch his show. Dallas is not what it used to be and there are many amazing places to eat, Arlington, Irving, FTW, suburbs outside of Dallas & FTW. So, not sure why they picked Sonny Bryans (not a fan personally) Never heard of Kuby's.

Its Man Vs Food, not Man Vs hamburgers, pizza, hot dogs, if there's a challenge, there doing it. am just Happy that they Picked our place(Sprout's Springroll & PHo) to do it. IMO there should be a variety of choices to be challenge not just the regular American food. BTW home of the COWBOYS is ARLINGTON, get USE to it. Maybe one day the MAVERICKS will come here too. Think about it...what's there in Dallas but the World Champion Mavericks...Six Flags, H2O, Dallas Cowboys & the American League Texas Rangers are here in ARLINGTON.
If U think the Pho Challenge is not challenging enough, than try it for urself. and for U people who think this is disgusting, this show is all about eatting to the max, where U stuff urself, beyond urself. thats just my opinion.

Seriously, everything that Dallas portrays are all mainly in Arlington. It's all about bragging rights, nothing else. Arlington is an up and coming city, back then it never was but now it is thriving with new buildings and the new stadiums.
Yes, Dallas had everything, but location changed. Just be happy that Man VS. Foodnation came to the Dallas Metroplex! It gives us another spotlight for visitors to come and see how proud we are of our city. =)
Sonny Bryan's is over rated, but hey, the original location has been there forever!
I never heard of Kuby's and I felt that shouldn't have been spotlighted. It should have been spotlighted on a place more famous.
And Sprout's Springroll & Pho, just because it's a vietnamese restaurant doesn't mean they don't deserve it. I truly believe they should try and do more different cultural food that portrays that certain popular food in the culture!
Adam Richman does alot of american style food, never a lot of cultured food. And I'm very excited that this is a different angle.

ktd637, I thought the show was a lot of fun last night. The only strange part was that they sort of painted Dallas (OK, Arlington) as the mecca of pho, and it certainly isn't.
It was also funny to watch the host do a camera shot from the dried up Trinity River. The Dallas skyline was behind him, and that looked pretty, but he was essentially walking in a part of town that 99.9% of us have never stepped foot on. And won't.
I also found myself surprisingly intrigued by Sonny Bryan's. I've always been a naysayer about that place, but the show convinced me that I at least need to give it another try. It's been probably 10 years since I've eaten there.
