UPDATED: Dallas Mavericks sign Vince Carter, Drew Neitzel, and Brian Cardinal
Welcome back to The Custodian.
The Dallas Mavericks signed free agent guards Vince Carter and Drew Neitzel, and re-signed forward Brian Cardinal.
[UPDATE: The team announced Thursday that Neitzel has been waived.]
Carter was an NBA All-Star eight consecutive years from 2000 to 2007. He won a gold medal in the Olympics in 2000 as a representative on the U.S. basketball team.
He has played for the Toronto Raptors (1998-2004), the New Jersey Nets (2004-2009), the Orlando Magic (2009-2010), and the Phoenix Suns (2010-2011). His career averages are 22.2 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 4.0 assists in 925 games (907 starts) with the four NBA teams, according to a statement.
Neitzel will spend his first NBA season with the Dallas Mavericks. He played for BBC Bayreuth in Germany last season. Prior to that, Neitzel played in summer leagues for the Portland Trailblazers and Minnesota Timberwolves.
The Mavericks also re-signed Brian Cardinal, a free agent affectionately called The Custodian by his teammates. Cardinal was part of the world championship Mavericks roster last season and is apparently a pretty snappy dancer.
