City of Dallas will recycle your Christmas tree
Here's a list of seven places you can take 'em.
DALLAS When it’s time to pull off the tinsel and pack away the lights, don’t trash your Christmas tree. Take it your Dallas neighborhood Home Depot Store. The City of Dallas’ Sanitation Services Department is sponsoring Christmas tree recycling and is happy to announce a partnership with Home Depot to make this year’s effort even more convenient for Dallas residents.
Until January 2, 2012, you can drop off your Christmas tree at one of the seven Dallas Home Depot Stores listed below. If you receive the city’s curbside brush collection, you can also place your tree at the curb on your scheduled collection week for pick up. Decorations and stands must be removed.
“Recycling Christmas trees is an important way to help the environment and extend the life of our landfill,” said Sheila Overton, waste diversion manager for the City of Dallas. “Historically, yard clippings and other organic materials, such as Christmas trees, comprise more than 20 percent of the material buried in a landfill. By recycling trees, residents can help reduce the amount of material in the landfill and give holiday trees a second life as compost, mulch, or wood chips.”
