Good 2 Go Taco new East Dallas location is ready to roll

Should be serving tacos by the end of the week!

Good 2 Go Taco, the East Dallas gourmet taqueria from chefs Colleen O'Hare and Jeana Johnson, will open by the end of the week in its deluxe new space at 1146 Peavy Road.

Good 2 Go previously occupied a tiny corner of the Green Spot convenience store, where it built a following for its chunky tacos filled with gourmet ingredients like sweet potatoes and quinoa. It then rocketed to national fame after an appearance on the Food Network's Best Thing I Ever Ate.

Jeana & Colleen spent the past six months fixing up the storefront. They've done a thoughtful renovation that respects the space, keeping some of its quirky fixtures, from the terrazo tile floor to the original massive safe built in 1963.

One corner has a small room encased in steel that's entirely bullet-proof; it served as a cashier station when the place was a check-cashing joint. A gorgeous old train-station clock is mounted on the wall. It's from the train station in Jeana's hometown of Palestine; her mother and grandfather both worked for the train company. The clock keeps perfect time.

The ordering area is sheathed in cedar that's been reclaimed from a fence on Henderson Avenue. So is Stir Coffee, the coffee bar outfitted with a La Marzocco Linea machine that's being opened within the space by Rip Rowan and Vanessa Peters. But probably the most gratifying element of all is the large fully-appointed kitchen and walk-in, a dramatic step up from the confined space they had at the Green Spot.

"Our dishwashing area here is bigger than our entire kitchen was," Colleen says.

I prefer to eat tacos in a bulletproof environment.

That stove is crazy.

They're up and running. The hollandaise on the Paris, TX is as remembered and the coffee is top-notch.

darn, I saw people in there, as I drove by, didn't realize it was open and serving. Great. Meet there sometime Mike? I drive by at about 6:15.

They were vacillating on opening this morning, initially saying, "come by but don't tell anyone," but by early morning decided to damn the torpedoes.

Would love to meet there, but that's a little early for me, even pre-sabbatical hours. Maybe on some special occasion...

Stopped by for lunch today -- Hotlanta (waffle-battered chicken, sweet potato & honey butter) and Nacho Mama (braised beef, rice, tortilla strips, & killer queso) were both as good as advertised. Can't wait to try them again for dinner, along with the other two offerings -- Hangover Helper (mashed potatoes and house chorizo) and Curry in a Hurry (bok choy, shiitake, & butternut squash in yellow coconut curry). Definitely worth making the trip.

Good 2 Go tacos AND decent coffee???!? But no gasoline. Hmm. Guess I'll be heading over to Peavy. Hate to see the Green Spot lose them though...will they be delivering the breakfast tacos over there too?

I would remove picture # 8.. It isn't flattering of the people or the food.
