Movies releasing on video this week (January 18)

Check here for our reviews of the biggest films coming out on DVD and Blu-ray.

Animal Kingdom paints a grim view of crime (and crime fighting) in that not-so-well-known hotbed of bank robbery, Melbourne, Australia. (This crew is so cruel!)

While we're on the subject, Takers takes a more mainstream Hollywood approach to the bank robbing life of crime. (This crew is so stylish!)

You'll never get lost watching Buried, because the entire world of the movie is encompassed by a 4' x 8' wooden box in which the only onscreen character (Ryan Reynolds) is — um — buried. (You don't count that snake as an actor, right?)

Watching Stone is both creepy and uncomfortably stimulating, thanks to a) the ominous undercurrents running through this off-kilter psychological drama, and b) Milla Jovovich going all sexy and seductive over Bobby De Niro.

Jack Goes Boating represents acting great Philip Seymour Hoffman's directorial debut. Alex called the film "strange and sad," citing its theatrical qualities.

Perhaps after sitting through the thoroughly insulting The Virginity Hit you'll want to load up the pellet gun and see if you can't "accidentally" miss the bullseye central hole in your DVD/Blu-ray copy. (Not recommended for rentals.)
