Pegasus News‘ Ultimate Best 2011 winners announced
The answers may surprise you.
Thanks to the nearly 11,000 votes that poured in for our Ultimate Best contest, we have the winners!
Our contest pitted already-existing winners of "best-of" contests against each other. Because, let's face it, best-of lists are a dime a dozen these days. Our goal is to tell you, dear readers, which businesses in Dallas-Fort Worth really are the best. If there are restaurants, bars, theaters, or more on this list that you haven't been to yet, here's your directive to try them out for yourself. They really are the best in North Texas.
Congratulations to all the winning businesses. Click on the links below to learn more about each winner or to tell us something unique about your favorites.

Wow... there are some really terrible winners in there. Starbucks as the best coffee shop? Really? Sigh. Blue Fish as the best sushi? Zinis as the best pizza? I mean, don't get me wrong... I love eating Zinis at 3am as much as anyone, but to claim it's the best pizza in Dallas is ludicrous.

Pegusus News users need to get more votes in. I really like lists of this sort, but I'm thinking the content doesn't live up to the title. How many people voted?

James, we tallied about 11,000 total votes.

Where I work, we put together "Best Of" lists also, asking for public input, and 90% of them are from businesses pretending to be otherwise. And the "real" people tend to vote like a herd and go for the obvious, such as Half Price Books being the best used book store over Paperbacks Plus, or a chain restaurant besting a local joint simply because more people go to chains. The only decent "Best Of" list is one put together by an expert in that particular area, like a food critic.

Starbucks? Seriously?
Egorsti -- thank you so much for your perspective.
That does take some of the stinky painful fog off of it.
"Herd" -- sad but so true.

I like White Rock Coffee. Stir's coffee was really good when they were at Good2Go Taco, but they had a ridiculous up-charge for soy - so stopped going.

Probably worth pointing out that the nominees for this "Best of" were winners from various other media companies "Best of" contests. The results aren't neccesarily the voters number one choice unless they wrote in an alternative - they had to vote from the winners from the other lists. Some of my favorites were not represented here because they had not won on any other Best of contest...so I wrote a few in.

James Scott, damn you, i still haven't been to White Rock Coffee so i cannot use it as another statistic in my theory that, with few exceptions, indie coffee shops pale next to Starbucks. thanks for reminder; i need to get over there and unearth its Achilles heel.
as for Stir Coffee, i'll not only see your soy upcharge as a flaw, i'll raise you with the fact that the one latte i had there was horribly lukewarm. yuck
