Movies opening in North Texas this weekend (June 10)

It's a good week for summer blockbusters and outstanding indie films. We got your reviews right here.

Well, now that I've seen Super 8, the highly-anticipated collaborative effort of J.J. Abrams and Steven Spielberg, I guess I can die happy.

(No, wait - it wasn't really all that, as Alex and I discovered and discussed.) Here's Alex's review.

Two really outstanding independent features make their North Texas debuts this week, the first of which is Submarine, a marvelously whimsical (and scathingly clever) take on coming of age in Wales.

The other one is Beginners, Mike Mills' ode to love and life and the strength to keep fighting for both even with death staring us in the face.

Judy Moody and the Not Bummer Summer will entertain children under the age of ten and over the age of, say, five or six. Bigfoot might also enjoy it. (Pretty small demographic.)

Hankering for some high-style samurai swordplay? With severed limbs? Check out 13 Assassins.

The Double Hour won awards for acting and Best Italian Film at the Venice Film Fest. And it deserves them.
