The Pin Show

— Last we talked about The Pin Show, it was February 2010 and the fashion show featured the work of about two dozen independent designers. This year, The Pin Show is leapfrogging over 2011 and will come back in 2012 with new leadership: Well-known local crafter Julie McCullough Kim is the executive producer, and owner of Ross Akard Gallery Bryan Embry will be the executive director.

The upcoming date for The Pin Show is February 23, 2012. Fashion designers interested in joining the show have from July 1 through October 15 31 to fill out an application. They can also apply for the artist-in-residence program at the Fairmont Dallas, which begins January 1, 2012.

[UPDATE: The deadline of October 15 was extended to 9 p.m. October 31 for fashion designers who want to be part of the show. Email thepinshow@gmail.com for more information.]

Most designers at The Pin Show are Texas-based, but a few hail from outside of our great state. McCullough Kim and designer Rachel Nichelson founded the fashion show in 2007.

According to a statement:

"The Pin Show gives regional boutiques and buyers an opportunity to view independent lines during one showcase as well as meet with designers and discuss future business opportunities. In addition, guests will have a unique fashion experience that is generally reserved for high-end designers and their clientele. The show has been the first of its kind in the Southwest region to showcase a growing group of slow-fashion designers on one runway for an audience of over 1,500 people, ranging from fashion hipsters to Dallas' influential fashion industry leaders."

An advisory board will pick the artist-in-residence and the recipient(s) of $2,000 in grant money. Board members are: Stacy Caldwell, president of Dallas Social Venture Partners; Sarah Jane Semrad, founder of La Reunion TX and event producer for Dallas Social Venture Partners; Sharon Lyle, director of TedxSMU; John R. Conte, vice president of Education at Wade College; and Tim Leamy, operating partner of Sebastian's Closet.

Tickets for the event go on sale November 15.
