Photo gallery: Finalists announced in TXU Energy Student Film Contest
Winners will get to walk the red carpet and schmooze with the VIPs!
DALLAS The votes are in and students from six North Texas schools will be walking the red carpet and mingling with the stars during the DALLAS International Film Festival.
High school and college students from across Texas have been competing to win $30,000 in cash and grants in the TXU Energy Light Up the Red Carpet Student Film Contest. The students were challenged to create a video demonstrating their view of the future of energy.
The finalists in the high school category are:
“I Want to Make You Happy,” Booker T. Washington High School
“Looking out for Texas,” Richardson High School
“The Aftermath,” Garland High School
The finalists in the college category are:
“After the Dark,” UT Arlington
“Queen Kill-A-Watt,” Art Institute of Dallas
“Zephyr,” University of North Texas
Finalists’ videos will be screened during the DALLAS International Film Festival scheduled for March 31 – April 10, 2011. Winners will be announced at the festival’s awards ceremony on April 8, 2011. All TXU Energy Light Up the Red Carpet finalists will have the opportunity to meet with film industry professionals and a top filmmaker at a special VIP event during the festival.
In addition to a night of glitz and glamour on the red carpet for students, winning high schools will receive the following cash technology grants for their film programs: 1st place prize is $7,500; 2nd place prize is $5,000; and 3rd place prize is $2,500. In the college division, the same cash prizes will apply; however, the prize for each winner will be split between the college’s film program and the director of the winning video.
