Spector 45 bassist Adam Carter died of apparent suicide over the weekend. The tragic news comes after his bandmate and friend Frankie Campagna died a similar death on New Year's Day.

We at Pegasus News got the chance to meet Carter in February when he played with The Marfalites at a Pegasus News-sponsored event. I spent much of the the night chatting with him, and I would describe him as fun loving and charismatic that evening. Only a few minutes after I met Carter, he was hugging me and cracking jokes.

He and The Marfalites put on a great set that night, with Carter jamming right next to frontman Noah Caveny. Our photographer Alexandra Olivia took the photo above of The Marfalites, and you can see Carter in the middle grinning. That's his boot kicked up at the front of the photo.

Lots more great stories are being shared about Carter on Deep Ellum's Facebook page by those who knew him much better than we did.

We also got the chance to interview Carter after Campagna's death in January. Carter and his other Spector 45 bandmate drummer Anthony Delabano spoke with our writer Jessica Harp about Campagna's legacy. The photo on the right shows Spector 45, with Carter on the right.

According to Facebook, Carter's memorial and reception will be on Wednesday:

Services are pending for Adam Carter and are tentatively scheduled for Wednesday at Restland. There will be a reception afterwards at LaGrange Deep Ellum and then a gathering at The Bone after that. More details soon.

UPDATE: The memorial at LaGrange on Wednesday is from 6-8 p.m. Live music at The Bone will be provided by Mo Brown, Ten Can Riot, Bluntforce Crew, Dave Hickmott of the Felons, Scary Cherry & the Bang Bangs, Monco Poncho, The Marfalites, and Rodeo Clown Dropouts. Donations will go towards suicide prevention.

I met Adam when he was with the Felons. He always gave me a big hug every time I saw him. I've run into him at Meridian Room several times this year. He was always funny, friendly and engaging. I'm so sorry for his family, and for his friends. You measure a man to some extent by the quality of his friends, and Adam had a lot of good friends.

LIke most, I'm very very sad, and pissed off at the same time.
