Kids and family events in Dallas-Fort Worth, March 31-April 6

Disney on Ice, two rabbit-themed musicals, and a film festival are your best bets this week.

Some weeks give you a plethora of outdoor events, other weeks inside. This week happens to be the latter, but don't let that deter you even though the weather forecast calls for nothing but sunshine this weekend. The following events are definitely worth staying inside for.

Disney on Ice: Toy Story 3

Disney on Ice: Toy Story 3

Toy Story 3 was one of the most popular movies of 2010, even getting nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars. Not wanting to waste that momentum, Disney whipped up Disney on Ice: Toy Story 3, which runs through Sunday at American Airlines Center in Dallas. Woody, Buzz, Jessie, and new characters like Ken and Lots-o'-Huggin' Bear will show off their skating skills while recreating scenes from the movie trilogy. Note: If you buy tickets to the April 2 show, make sure you understand Spanish, as that performance will be performed in that language.

With Easter coming up in just a few weeks, prepare for an onslaught of rabbit-related events. Things get started this week with two theater productions, The Adventures of Brer Rabbit at Casa Manana Theatre in Fort Worth (starting Friday and running through April 17) and Knuffle Bunny: A Cautionary Musical at Eisemann Center for Performing Arts in Richardson (Sunday only). Neither is actually related to Easter -- Brer Rabbit is the classic tale from the American South also featuring Brer Fox and Brer Bear, while Knuffle Bunny is about a girl's trip to the laundromat with her dad and her stuffed bunny.

Finally, the 2011 DALLAS International Film Festival kicks off on Thursday, and while most of the fare isn't really kid friendly, the festival is holding a Family Day on Saturday at NorthPark Center in Dallas. Old and new age-appropriate movies, like The Muppet Movie, will be shown at AMC NorthPark 15, and other activities like sing-alongs, arts & crafts, and storytelling will be available at NorthPark's Center Park.
