“Real Men Care” event to benefit Dallas Animal Advocates and Metroplex Animal Coalition
It honors four men who have made a big difference for animals in the past year.
DALLAS A quartet of “real men” who have made a difference for animals will be honored at an upcoming event jointly benefiting Dallas Animal Advocates and the Metroplex Animal Coalition.
“Real Men Care” takes place Sunday, May 15, from 6 to 9 p.m. at Sambuca in Dallas. The “real men” being recognized are Lt. Scott Walton, interim manager of Dallas Animal Services, who has worked tirelessly to make positive changes at the City’s animal shelter; Richard Hunter, who adopted one of Michael Vick’s dogs and brought national attention to the key to the City of Dallas given to Vick by then-Council Member Dwaine Caraway; Robert Hayden, who rescued a dog from certain death after he saw it hanging by its collar on a fence; and Jean-Paul (JP) Bonnelly, an animal rescuer who has captured several stray dogs that have eluded other rescue attempts.
The event will feature a silent auction with almost 100 items, including signed prints by renowned photographer David Woo of Kinky Friedman and “Dog Whisperer” Cesar Millan; roundtrip tickets on Southwest Airlines; a $250 gift certificate to Skibell Fine Jewelry; a week-long stay for up to three dogs in a suite at Toothacres Pet Care Center; restaurant gift certificates; spa and hair care packages; hand-crocheted scarves; doggie day care; unique yard sculptures; a mosaic pet bed; crystal ware; a two-night stay at the Hotel Lumen; dog- and cat-lovers gift baskets; cosmetic packages; private yoga lessons; Rangers tickets and more.
In addition, local author Mary Spencer will sign copies of her new book, All My Fosters are Rock Stars, and Silpada silver jewelry will be available for purchase, with a portion of the proceeds benefiting Dallas Animal Advocates and the Metroplex Animal Coalition. Richie Whitt and Greg Williams with 105.3 FM The Fan will emcee the event.
Admission to “Real Men Care” is $65 in advance or $75 at the door and includes a selection of hors d’oeuvres, two drinks, temporary tattoos in keeping with the party’s “biker” theme and complimentary photos. Tickets are available online at www.MetroplexAnimalCoalition.org.
Major sponsors for “Real Men Care” include Holly Forsythe/Sambuca, Gemey and Mickey Kaliff, Julie McKinney and Robert Bown, Kay and Joe Pyland, and Stratos Greek Taverna.
