Kids and family events in Dallas-Fort Worth, May 5-11
It's a festival and theater-going weekend -- which one will you choose?
In case you had forgotten, Mother's Day is this Sunday. And while everybody should certainly celebrate that day with those they love, let's not forget that it's Mother's Day -- there are plenty of other days this week to please the whole family (seriously, though -- I love you, Mom!). Here are your options this week:
Mayfest in Fort Worth has had a rocky couple of years, but they're back again, running Thursday through Sunday at Trinity Park. In addition to a good variety of music, patrons can take in such things as the Great American Duck Races, All American Lumberjack Show, and the Giant Human Maze. Absolutely your best chance for fun all weekend.
If you're in the mood for a festival but live on the Dallas side of Dallas-Fort Worth, don't fret -- you have at least a couple of options. The 2011 Spring Cottonwood Art Festival will take place on Saturday and Sunday at Cottonwood Park in Richardson. Around 240 artists will be showing off their talents in this prestigious show. Or you can check out the 2011 Dallas Asian Festival at Main Street Garden in Dallas on Saturday, where you can partake in Asian food, culture, and other activities to help celebrate National Asian Pacific American Heritage Month.
Finally, the weekend brings two new theater productions. A single performance of Peter and the Wolf will be put on Friday night at McKinney Performing Arts Center, with music provided by the North Texas Chapter of the American Theatre Organ Society and acting from the McKinney Repertory Theatre Young Actors Guild. Also starting Friday is Dallas Children's Theater's Giggle, Giggle, Quack at the Rosewood Center. It's a sequel to Click, Clack, Moo: Cows That Type, but don't worry if you haven't seen the original -- you'll be able to catch up in no time.
