303 Bar & Grill to open in Bishop Arts behind Gloria’s

A neighborhood hang-out, nothing more, nothing less.

303 Bar & Grill is a new spot opening in Bishop Arts in November in the space that abuts Gloria's.

Located at 303 West Davis Street, the restaurant is a collaboration of sorts between design guru Cory Pope and Celia Lopez, who owns Manhattan Lounge on Routh Street. In the kitchen is chef Adam "Chef Baz" Bazaldua, who at some point worked at Rathbun's Blue Plate Kitchen.

The food will be upscale bar food, heavy on sandwiches, but all homemade, according to a consultant on the project who asked not to be named.

"It used to be a taqueria, but it was originally just a house," he said. "It's been vacant and run down for the past five years. We took the house next to it, knocked it down and made a parking lot."

The menu has a distinct hint of the Northeast, with items such as fish & chips and a "meatball Parm."

Appetizers include an unusual-sounding Philly cheesesteak empanada, Cajun Buffalo wings, BBQ chicken sliders, and garlic shrimp. French fries are house-made and fried in duck fat.

Among the half dozen burgers is a vegetarian "eggplant burger"; other sandwiches include salmon BLT, shrimp po' boy, Carolina-style pulled pork, and pastrami with caramelized onions and cole slaw. More Northeast touches include an Italian hero with salami, turkey, provolone, mozzarella, and crushed cherry peppers; and a lasagna sandwich on Texas toast. There'll be Sunday brunch and a $6 daily special such as a "Coney Island hot dog" with chili, fried chicken, roast beef, sausage & peppers, and crab cake sliders with sweet potato fries.

"All this is going to be is a neighborhood bar and grill and a hang-out spot," the consultant said. "A place where you can watch some TV, eat a great sandwich, eat an appetizer -– that’s all we’re wanting, nothing more, nothing less."

GOOD LUCK, I have found that once a hang out become it then got the hype...and then it was no longer fun.......I can recall the fire station when it was a real place, then 5 studos later for artist, flim and framers....it has survived in time then again...the area is so far removed from the real thing, I am glad I moved.......I was over there yeaterday and they are doing some street thing again...AND CLIFF NOTES MOVED AGAIN....you know what,... developers and gamblers have one thing in common.....greed....while us little folks we love our communities......and give and give and then die...A/T.

The house is no longer recognizable because of all the plywood they've nailed to the outside. This doesn't belong in a single family neighborhood. These are North Dallas people looking to cash in on Bishop Arts. They love the neighborhood so much they live north of N.W. Hwy. No thanks.

Seriously people? No thanks??! So, if I don't live in OC, I shouldn't have business here? Why don't you all get over yourselves and just welcome people trying to do nice things in these run down properties?! That piece of junk was vacant for over 5 years!! It's called progress and I don't see any of you haters doing anything about your beloved neighborhood!!

Do you have a food dumpster from a bar outside your kitchen window? If parking cars for a bar next to a dumpster next to somebody's house is "doing something for the neighborhood" then I'll pass,

I bet they don't allow that up north but your beloved zoning allows them to do it to us.

This is just what we needed in Oak Cliff. It was time for a change and this is wonderful what they're doing for the community. I can't wait to eat at this new restaurant.

This is going to be a great addition to the "District". About time there is going to be a decent place to eat besides Mexican Food and the fast food places. Very few "developers" want to come south of the Trinity. Bravo for 303!

We went to 303 on Sunday (May 20th) we had a good time the food was AWESOME, I couldn't wait to tell my best friend all about it and she lives in Plano. I'm glad things are changing in Oak Cliff, "Thumbs Up" form the The Mejia's in Lancaster and DeSoto. Just one thing I wish the area had more parking. Thanks 303 for coming South, I'm sure we'll be coming back!!
