Photos: Tomato Battle at Fair Park (November 12)

Looks like it got very juicy.

— The Tomato Battle in Texas went down as planned on Saturday in a remote parking lot at Fair Park, where approximately 1,500 participants hurled tomatoes at each other for charity.

Organizer Max Kraner said that the event would benefit the North Texas Food Bank and another charity to be named. Similar events have taken place in Colorado, Washington, and California.

Wasting tomatoes to benefit the Food Bank? Sounds like philanthropy FAIL to me. Please update the story with some numbers (money raised, etc.)

John Turner-McClelland, verified:

The lead up claimed the tomatoes were beyond their date to sell, but I am sure starving people would differ. Just another example of disconnect in our society.
