See’s Candies opens kiosks in the suburbs — but not Dallas proper
What, no chocolates for those of us inside the loop?
As they do every year, California-based See's Candies opened its limited-run holiday kiosks around Dallas; opening date was November 10 and they'll stay open until December 26.
Emphasis on the word "around" -- this year, for the first time, See's did not open a temporary kiosk inside Dallas proper at all.
The map on See's website tells the tragic tale. Note the See's kiosk icons forming a semi-circle that extends from Plano in a westward arc to Arlington, with no See's icon inside the loop.
Instead, the free-standing kiosks all reside in the 'burbs:
See's president Brad Kinstler said that the company tried to get in both NorthPark and the Galleria but were unable to.
"The landlords make their own decisions on which temporary tenants get in," he said.
The kiosks sell pre-packaged 1- and 2-pound gift-wrapped boxes of chocolates and candies. Last year See's tried an experiment by keeping some of the kiosks open through Mother's Day.
However, See's candy is being sold at Dillard's stores, including the branch at NorthPark. According to a Dillard's manager, they began hosting See's Candies mini-kiosks last year, during the same time period as the free-standing outlets. They're located near the stores' Home section and have a basic supply of gift assortments.
