Kids and family events in Dallas-Fort Worth, October 20-26

It's food, music, and cute animals at this week's events -- what more do you need?

Any good event should be all about making its patrons happy. Dish out some good food, give 'em some fun music to dance to, and maybe throw in some cute animals. Well, we're all about making our readers happy, so this week we have events that feature all three of these staples -- enjoy!

The annual Boo at the Zoo at the Fort Worth Zoo kicks off on Friday for the first of two weekend stints. Halloween-themed activities will be featured all around the zoo, while special activities -- including trick-or-treating! -- will take place at the Chesapeake Pavilions. And, of course, you'll be able to get an up-close look at all the different animals.

Downtown Plano has increasingly become a destination for food lovers, and it will become even more so on Saturday when it hosts the 2011 Downtown Plano Feastival. Area restaurants, including all of the downtown ones, will be holding tastings, and there will also be a chili cook-off. Former American Idol contestant Tim Halperin will be among the music performers, and the whole event will benefit The Assistance Center of Collin County.

Finally, good food and good music is also in the cards for anyone going to Blues, Bandits, and BBQ at Lake Cliff Park in Dallas, taking place on Saturday. The smell of BBQ will start wafting from the park on Friday night, so your mouth will definitely be watering by noon on Saturday. To help wash down the food, blues artists like Tallon "T Man" Latz and Andrew Tinker will be performing.
