Jake’s Burgers is opening on Henderson Avenue in Dallas

The seventh branch is at the corner of Belmont and Henderson.

— A Jake's Hamburgers will open on Henderson at the corner of Belmont in late September. Jake's spokesman Joe Shaw says it'll be a "flagship" location with "a lot of little bells and whistles" including a garage-door wall fronting out onto an indoor-outdoor patio.

"This is the first Jake's we've ever built from the ground up," Shaw said. "We've always taken over pre-existing locations, so it's an important store for us, and we're very excited to be in that neighborhood."

They're going into what was an empty lot, across from a new apartment building being built, not far from J Black's. Another semi-new development: They'll be serving breakfast.

"We first introduced breakfast at our Main Street Fort Worth location, then brought it to Addison, and now we'll open the Henderson location with it," he said. "And because it's Henderson Avenue, it'll be open very late -- until 2 a.m. That's the first Jake's to have that configuration."

Those who keep up with their burger dynasties will already know that Jake's was spawned from Keller's, then purchased in 2003 by brothers Greg and Marty Garvey, who used to run Ferguson's Cafe, which at the time was well known for its excellent breakfast. Marty brings the business sense, Greg has the food-and-beverage background. His concept of breakfast combines an old-school diner sensibility -- biscuits and gravy, omelets -- with a touch of Mexican a la migas and huevos rancheros. There's a unique French toast made with actual French bread, and sweet cream pancakes that Shaw says have "almost a funnel cake consistency."

The Henderson Avenue Jake's will be the seventh branch. Every other branch has taken over another space, so they all look different. The company just established a franchising program, with an eye towards the other major cities in Texas: Austin, Houston, and San Antonio.

One other piece of news: The Henderson location will have a parking lot with, count 'em, 40 parking spaces.

"We knew we had to have that," Shaw said.
