Add DART Police to your text list
Haven't you always wanted to text them?
DART upped its security in late February after a series of fatalities – including the 19-year-old pushed to death by four juveniles in late 2011 – caused a flurry of upset over whether our light rail was safe enough. Last week, another man died after being pulled under the train.
DART reports on Thursday that beginning on Friday, April 6, customers can text DART Police with the keyword "dartpolice" to 41411. The tool is meant to be used by those who don't want to make a phone call if they see a crime, or for hearing-impaired DART riders. DART officials note that it isn't a replacement for emergency calls. DART also now has uniformed guards on every train.
You may recognize the text number as the same one patrons can use to find departure and arrivals for DART buses and trains. The added keyword "dartpolice" will send it to the police.
Says a press release, “DART hopes this new crime reporting tool will help provide more leads as well as direct emergency services in a more timely fashion to where they are needed most.”
