Kids and family events in Dallas-Fort Worth, April 26-May 2
Arts, jazz, dog walking, and food trucks are your best bets this week.
We're almost in the home stretch, people. As April gives way to May, it will be a short time before the kids are out of school and ready to run rampant in their summertime activities. But until then we'll have to make do with other fun stuff, including the below events.
The 2012 Denton Arts and Jazz Festival will take place Friday through Sunday at Quakertown Park. Lee Ritenour, Los Lonely Boys, and Brave Combo headline the music portion of the event, which features no fewer than seven stages of continuous music. There will be plenty of food, crafts, and games for all to enjoy at the free festival, so make sure to stop by if you're in the area.
The annual Strut Your Mutt race/walk goes off on Saturday morning at Fair Park in Dallas. All pets and their owners are welcome to participate in the 3K, proceeds of which will benefit the SPCA of Texas. The course will be lined with a variety of food, music, kids activities, and booths, so there will be plenty to do besides getting some exercise.
Finally, food trucks will be at the center of two separate weekend events. On Saturday, Downtown Frisco will host the appropriately-named Downtown Frisco StrEATS, which will feature a variety of trucks and live music. Then on Sunday, the Shops at Park Lane in Dallas puts on the Chefs on Fire, at which 14 food trucks will merely be the sideshow to the firefighter-themed event. Among other things, there will be a junior firefighters contest and a grilling competition amongst area fire chiefs.
