Dessert review: Carnival Barker’s Ice Cream
What I love about Carnival Barker’s Ice Cream is there is no skimping on ingredients.
We live in Texas: I can burn the first seven layers of the skin from my feet going outside to get the mail if I don’t wear shoes. I can practically cook a whole pork roast on the hood of my car. And you can forget about picking up ice cream when you’re at the grocery store; unless of course, you prefer a cream-based soup with chunks of cookies in it when you get home.
I was perplexed. I had been told about Carnival Barker’s Ice Cream by a few people and really wanted to pick some up. I happened to be at Bolsa enjoying some coffee and dessert, right after I had a brunch of pancakes (and dessert) down the street at Smoke. Bottomless pit I may be, there was absolutely no room for ice cream. However, since I was next door to Bolsa Mercado (where a couple of Carnival Barker’s Ice cream flavors are sold), I knew I should take advantage. Armed with a cooler full of ice, and the wonderful guy at Bolsa Mercado that stuck my pints of ice cream in another bag filled with ice, they safely made it home!
It is an unexplainable kind of joy when you’re relaxing on the couch later with the remote in your hand and then you remember you have glorious pints of Banana Pudding and Cookies N Cream ice cream waiting on you in your freezer.
So, armed with my cheesy reality TV and two pints of Carnival Barker’s Ice Cream, I found that sweet spot on the couch where my ass has left a permanent indentation and grabbed a spoon.
The only way to describe the banana pudding ice cream is by telling you that it tastes like some of the freshest, creamiest banana pudding you have ever had, only frozen: delicious chunks of banana, creamy ice cream, and vanilla wafers. The Cookies N’ Cream ice cream is creamy vanilla ice cream swirled with delicious chunks of Oreos.
What I love about Carnival Barker’s Ice Cream is there is no skimping on ingredients. Every bite is full of the ingredients listed. There are plenty of bananas and vanilla wafers in the banana pudding, and endless, huge chunks of Oreos in the cookies n’ cream.
I can’t say enough how important I think it is to support local. If the product is far superior to the large grocery store chains that cut corners, do yourself and your city a favor next time you want ice cream and pick up some Carnival Barker’s Ice Cream.
